SHA NA NA AND NELSON

The radio station I listen to
plays nothing but oldies
and I play nothing but that station
because I like my sounds
to have a sense of history.

I like to listen to the past
to see if I can hear
what the ears of yesteryear
liked so much
about Sha Na Na
and Nelson
and Natalie Cole.

It gives me a better sense
of the world I live in
a clearer view
of the sound of a younger America
even if that view lacks
a certain context.

The tunes are just fine,
of course,
and, once in a blue moon, “Unforgettable.”
