Down Foreign Streets

She liked the Village
because the lack of grid
and the lack of numbers
and the general lack of order
left her feeling somewhere outside of New York
in a foreign land
where things were done differently than in NYC.

Of course, when she explained this
to a native of Greenwich
he looked at her like she was a crazy one.

“This is as much the City
as anything else!”
he proclaimed.

She felt very isolated then
which is
itself
also a New York experience.

Though she loved going down
foreign streets
she had never travelled far
from New York
at all.
