No one suspected when the Danish were placed
on street corners across the city.
They were just left there one day
and the locals just assumed they were part of the scenery.
Quickly, though, these tall and imposing folk
would begin to move about from their positions
as if they belonged
and in their roaming
they would pillage and conquer
as their forebears would.
Soon enough the city was rampant with Danish
everywhere bustling through the town
conquering and killing
doing what they wilt
destroying and taking things off to boats,
just rip-roaringly rousting the whole place.
It was a real big deal.
The main thing you could heard out of any of them
was a growing, "We’re not Danish;
we’re Danes!"
which seems easy enough to remember
but nowhere near as much fun.
