The Squirrels of 95th Street

I don’t see squirrels on Ninety Fifth Street
between Columbus and Amsterdam Avenues.
There aren’t enough trees to make it enticing.
It’s a brownstone block,
so there are trees around,
but just a few.
Birds frequent.
You can hear their calls
but not the rustling of the squirrels
as they hunt for nuts.

Surely other rodents
are happy
to replace them.
