Assured Destruction

Above her stilettos
upon one firm calf
beneath sparkly fishnets
rests a cobra-wrapped stilleto.
It’s a tattoo
but no less dangerous
as I watch the tattoo
and its owner
warily
knowing full well
this cold blooded creature
will strike
or slash
whenever she wishes
and despite my constant vigilance
through effortful
rock-hard stares
I am defenseless.

She has other tattoos:
broken hearts above the breast
and a broken skull
beside her shoulder.
I watch then all
carefully
waiting for the attack.

Saying Something Sexy

Oh, how I hunger
for another taste
of that delicious thigh meat.
I have not partaken
in so long and
truly
do I miss it.

I have been off
cold turkey
for many months
and
with every passing day
it gets harder
resisting the urge.

I have been warned against
told that mine is an addiction
and I’d be better off abstaining
from the delight
of that savory meat.

I know.
I recognize the bad things I have done
in service of this particular delicacy.
I realize
how much more productive I am
when I dine on simpler meals
like pickles
or avoid eating entirely,
subsisting on hot beet injections
or Orangina.

I see how I love the thigh too much
and if I feast on nothing else
I will grow slack,
supine,
sickened by the repetition.
Too much thigh makes the baby go blind
or something like that.
I am aware
that I must show restraint.

It’s just
I love a juicy thigh
so much
and
knowing there’s another
into which I can sink my teeth..
I cannot stop.

Enjoy the Silence

Shut it.
Shut it down.
Shut it off.
Just shut up.
Stop talking in your
incessant
increasingly annoying way.
Leave it alone.
Leave us be.
Turn your voice off
so we can get back to what’s important
which is not listening to you.

Do you get it?
Don’t you see?
It’s easier
for all of us
if you close down.
Close your mouth.
Quit it.
Cease speaking.
I’m tired of all of your noise pollution
and need you to
– and still you’re at it.
You won’t stop,
will you?

I mean,
why are you even here?
Why would you come out
to spout your shitty complaints
or utter such irrelevant opinions
when you know
that no one cares what you have to say?

Oh:
you didn’t know?
You hadn’t realized?
You just needed someone to set you straight
so that you could shut up shutting up?
So why are you still talking?
For god’s sake
when will you STOP?

Inadequate Mono

It’s been too long
– and I should know.
Since we last met
my vision’s gone blurry:
everything that is not you
it appears
is simply not worth seeing.

Colors are muted
and my favorite songs
seem irrelevant
in your absence
like they are inadequate mono
without you to hear them.

It’s like
without you
there is less of the world
to absorb
or appreciate
or interact with.
I am diminished without you
and
that was just for a chance meeting.

I’m lost without you
I guess
and hope that you’ll soon find me.
Please
retrieve this missing package
before I lose all of my senses.

Six Digits

SIX DIGITS

The girl that you danced with
the night before
the girl you made out with
in the corner booth at the diner
the girl who gave you a number with six digits
after talking about her ex-boyfriend
and all the drugs he used to do
and did you know where to score some Q?

That girl is not right for you.
That girl from last night
that occupied your restless dreams
and your wired visions in wakefulness
is all wrong
but all right,
if you know what I mean
– and I’m pretty sure you do.

A sensible man
would not try to find her.
A sensible man
would erase her from his hard drive.
A sensible man
would not try out all final ten digits
of her number
in the hopes of uncovering which was hers
before realizing
that it could have been the first number she neglected
or the fifth
and what about the area code anyway and –
the girl is not right for you.

She’s just not right
and if you were in your right mind,
you’d see that.
So maybe you’ll be in your right mind later.

Toilet Rumor

TOILET RUMOR

What a strange bathroom I am going to
and a strange place to be going to the bathroom
and a strange girl in whose house I am urinating.

How did this happen?
How do these sorts of things happen?
How did I ever arrive upon
this creamy ceramic
spilling my gold
before I rejoin the lady
to whom I have inadvertently dedicated my evening?

This sort of scene
seems to happen
more and more often
when I go to that bar
on the corner of Seacrest and Pine.

The question I must ask, then, is:
do I want this sort of scene
to be repeated
or repudiated?

That’s will need an answer,
I suspect,
at the end of the evening
after I’ve escaped
this curious home
with the curious woman
and that can only happen
after exiting the bathroom.

Flush.

All Apologies # 019

Please , do not misconstrue my meaning or intent.
This is not so much an apology
as it is an explanation
– though certainly,
I’m sad that you’ve gotten this upset.

I was drunk, see,
and frustrated,
and it was our third date
but I didn’t want to press the point
because that would be inappropriate.
And you were not forthcoming
so when we parted
I saw her at the bar
and she looked so much like you…

Perhaps
I should not have slept with your sister
but
she was so lovely
– so very like you –
only more pliant,
limber,
and drunk.

Was it the right thing to do?
No.
Was it understandable?
I think so
and would be remiss
if I didn’t mention
I would have been unavailable
for her
had you invited me up.

In any case,
I hope you’re willing
to schedule a make-up third date
and if not,
could perhaps hand the phone
to your little sis.

Missed Connections I

MISSED CONNECTIONS I

You were the girl with the giant bozooms
and I was the boy who could not get a word out.
I tried
– really, I did –
to pay attention to anything you had to say
but I seemed like a cross eyed retard
and you seemed really nice.

I suspect I missed my chance with you
but I’d hate myself
even more than I do
if I squandered my chance to be with those two
so
if you have an ounce of compassion
in your heart
or somewhere in the space before it
could you give me another shot?

The Hour

THE HOUR

It was the hour of living dangerously
and I met this fetching young creature who
SURPRISE!
did not want to sleep with me.
“Don’t you get it?” I asked,
“Don’t you see? I’m the one for you, my dear,
and you’re the one for me!”

She was not a fan of spontaneous rhymes
– or maybe she thought my spontaneous rhyme
was suspect:
preplanned, prepared, predetermined…
Maybe she was not a fan of mine.
“I would not do it with you,”
she said,
“or anything of thine!”
(her rhymes worked.)

I begged and pleaded
(it was, after all,
the hour of living dangerously)
to no avail
so eventually
we parted ways
and I went back to the business of the day
which was seeking anyone
to sleep with me.

So far,
no takers,
and the hour has passed
so
I don’t know
how it will go.

Bad You Both

BAD YOU BOTH

I see you
and
I think of chocolate.
What is this Pav-loving response where
I see something as sweet
as succulent
as one such as you and
I just begin to drool?

Am I so basic
so primitive?
Do I equate such hungry urges
with one another
and need such simple satisfaction?

Maybe there is something more.
Maybe I know
that you
like chocolate:
keep me up at night
require regular intake
make me bigger?

Or maybe I know
how bad you both are
for one such as I?

I don’t know.
I do know
that I see you
and
I think of chocolate
and hunger for nothing else.
