Suck Wintergreen

SUCK WINTERGREEN

This is not a poem
yet, just a series of words
– ideas, really.
This is the kernel,
the beginning,
the first step to something greater,
more important,
resonant and relevant.

This is the start
of what could well be
the opening salvo
of my magna opera,
the collection
that will make me an internationally appreciated player
in the Poetry Game.

Or maybe
I’ll just leap frog poetry
and go where the real money is:
commercials.
Maybe these simple words
can support the launch
of a new and exciting breath mint
the likes of which the world has never seen.

Perhaps awards and fame
are awaiting me
from the CLIOs
for inspiring a new generation
to suck wintergreen,
I don’t know.

I do know, though,
that this sentence,
this stanza,
may well be life changing
and should be appreciated
as such
so don’t hate or criticize.
Just love these words
for what they are
until they become something more.

About Jonathan Berger

I used to write quite a bit more.
