You say “love conquers everything,” but I still have my doubts
considering all the bodies you had buried coming out.
Still from all the words I gather from your most self-righteous plea
I hear you guys were destined; you were always meant to be.
I’m sure that you once loved me, just as you maintain your claim,
and that the pain I feel’s collateral, and never was your aim
which you wish makes me feel better, or someday you hope it will
but to see you lip to lip, hip on hip just makes me ill.
You look so good together, may you live without much care
and may, too, you two look to a world you cannot ever share
for the future is unknowable, nor can you see the facts
that the life you have before you has been built on your past acts.
But the heart wants what the heart wants, one with fame had once had said
so perhaps the two of you will stay together ’til you’re dead.
In any case I can’t begrudge you for this change of life
so goodbye my former love interest; enjoy your new-won wife.
